Search engine optimization is the process of improving and promoting a website to increase the number of visitors the site receives from search engines.

Search engines are the primary way that users navigate the Internet. Therefore, it is imperative that websites utilize key links and phrases that are certain to get them included at the forefront of Google, Bing and Yahoo’s search results: the more specific, the better.

The terms that users type into search engines are very valuable. History has shown that search engine traffic is very important for an organization’s success. Targeted visitors to a website can provide publicity, revenue and exposure. These targeted visitors, in turn, retweet and promote your content on their social media pages for their friends to see.


This is a sad video about shelter animals. Our video will be similar, however, rather than featuring animals, we will attempt to convey the pain and angst of an average pencil user.


 Here, Andy Milonakis acts as a wine taster. Our video will be similar, however, we will be "tasting" a vast assortment of pens.

Viral Marketing

Viral marketing for Ink Inc. can be accomplished in a number of ways:

Videos:
-Lip sync music videos
-Pen snatching story
-Private (Pen) Investigators
-Pen rap song

Promotions:
-Create pen shaped handout that describes Ink Inc.'s role. 
-Dress as giant Pen
-give out free pens

Social Media:
-Use "buzzwords" in each tweet and Facebook status. Buzzwords include but are not limited to: ink, calligraphy, penmanship, writing, cursive, typography, graphology, paper, pen, quill, fountain, Montblanc, Cartier, Cross, Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Dupont, penspiration, pensations and pendemonium. 

Techniques: 
The easiest way to create successful viral marketing campaigns is to follow these guidlines:
-Be humorous
-Be current
-help people achieve a goal
-Be unique or strange
-Spoof a popular song or movie
-Create a warning
-Be shocking or controversial 
-Be sexy
-Create a thought provoking message
-Create "never before seen" content

This was really great because all members of our group were able to stop watching Nic Cage movies just long enough to get some work done!

We know that for an effective viral marketing campaign we need the following:
   1. Determine the ideal customer
   2.  Identify competitors
   3.  Find the best social media channel for our business
   4.  Choose appropriate keywords
It is also useful to know the latest trending buzzwords and any new Guerrilla marketing(marketing with low-cost unconventional means) techniques

What did each group member do?

Bethany: Stopped watching The Rock.  Made a logo!  Worked on a PitchEngine presentation.

Milly:  Paused Gone in 60 Seconds.  Posted a ton of super links to the blog she has already made look great.  Also, used an excessive amount of emoticons on our facebook page.
Brian:  Turned off Tokyo Dangerous.  Became a viral marketing wiz by compiling a list of strategies:
Myles:  Only watched Adaptation twice today.  Wrote this.  Posted this:

Primary: Pen manufacturers seeking to gain customer acquisition. They are looking for a new creative approach to direct consumers toward their product.

Insight:
The pens I manufacture are sometimes not given proper recognition for their value. I wish I could communicate in the advertising for my product that a pen is more than just a writing utensil. I want a high-visibility opportunity for my product.

Strategy:
Ink, Incorporated is an advertising agency run by four pen-lovers who recognize the importance of a good pen. The fully integrated agency works with pen manufacturers everywhere to create persuasive and dynamic marketing strategies.

Today Brian and Myles researched SEO terms and viral marketing techniques.
Milly redesigned our blog to fit our professional persona.
Bethany drafted a strategic brief which will soon be posted to the blog.
